We preview the family-friendly Deer Shed Festival

Deer Shed is a small, independent, family-orientated festival that is a refreshing addition to Yorkshire’s growing festival scene. A family of four can attend for under £150 which offers value for money compared to other festivals and they have unveiled an eclectic and exciting programme of events for their three-day -event. This is only the second year the event has run – they were nominated for Best Newcomer at the UK Festival Awards last year. The  event is being held at Brandesbury Park, Topcliffe (not far from Thirsk) from July 22nd-24th.

The theme will be The Sky At Night  in honour of Headliners I Am Kloot. As well as offering “more crafts & activities than a hundred episodes of Blue Peter all rolled into one”, including softball, a sandpitt, graffiti workshops, hula hoops and ukele lessons, the organisers are really taking the Sky At Night theme seriously. There will be a pop-up planetarium, star-gazing, space hopping, papier mache lunarscapes and hopefully a CAA authorised space-launch!

Hula Hooping is one of the many activities on offer

Onto the music and  and the line up is vibrant, eclectic and interesting. As well as I Am Kloot are The Go!Team, Frankie & The Heartstrings. The Lesiure Society & Caitline Rose amongst others. There will be three bars on site selling drinks at pub prices (how refreshing! Other festivals, take note please) selling Yorkshire Ales and ciders as well as food stalls from around the world – crepes, a German Grill, Pizza, Curries & Oriental and our own favourites such as hog roasts, fish & chips and of course filled Yorkshire Puddings.
